According to Diamond, Marvel was #1 in Total Sales Unit Shares (a.k.a. number of comics sold) in 2001, flying high above their nearest competitor by a score of 37.88% to 31.71%. It's worth noting that Marvel accomplished this with nearly half as many titles as their Distinguished Competition. Diamond also stated that of the Top 100 issues sold last year, a whopping 78 of them were Marvel titles.
Last but not least, Diamond announced that for February 2002, Marvel was #1 in both Comics, Magazines & Graphic Novels Dollar Share (beating our nearest competitor 32.65% to 30.60%) and Comics, Magazines, Magazines & Graphic Novels Unit Share (topping our nearest competitor 39.13% to 31.52%).
