When his mutant ability to project psionic blasts first manifested itself it, it created a massive hole in the center of young Jonothon Starsmore’s chest. Jonothon survived the initial manifestation and eventually began to wear a special harness that allowed Jonothon to control the flow of his psionic energy. It was not after this that Jono was recruited into the X-Men’s training squad, where he would hone the use of his powers in order to continue the war against Apocalypse. During his time with the X-Men’s training squad Chamber became romantically involved with Husk, a teammate.
Filling their days with training, the young mutants were given their first official mission when the X-Men’s founder, Magneto arrived with a plan to end the Age of Apocalypse. The plan involved the mutants infiltrating the Seattle Core, a facility that provided power to all of North America, and rescue the young Illyana Rasputin, sister to the training squads leader Colossus, and instrumental to Magneto‘s overall plot. Chamber, along with fellow teammate Skin, was to infiltrate the core posing as a human worker and search for the young mutant. The two mutants were successful in their infiltration, but after a searching the core, they were unable to locate Illyana.
When their presence was discovered by the Sugarman, the mutant in charge of the core, the young mutants were besieged by thousands of Sugarman’s genetically engineered guards, and abandoned by their leaders Colossus and Shadowcat. Unable to overcome the enemies massive numbers, the mutants were eventually slain in battle.
