Assistant District Attorney Sachi Yama met and fell in love with Cain Marko, also known as the Juggernaut, after the former nemesis of the X-Men had reformed. Sachi soon fell pregnant with Cain's child, and young Zane was born.
Later, whilst on a mission with the X-Men, the Juggernaut disappeared in an alien dimension. After coping with the loss, Sachi went back to her maiden name of Yama.
When J2 first appeared, Sachi believed him to be Cain but, on meeting J2, she realized this was not the case. She then made it a mission to discover J2's secret identity, not knowing that he was actually her son Zane who had inherited his father's powers.
When Zane eventually revealed his secret identity to his mother, she told him she had already known for some time.
