Julius Bridwell learned early on that he could use his size to his advantage, and as he grew older he quickly assumed control of many New York criminal enterprises. Attracting the attention of Assistant District Attorney Sachi Yama who organised a warrant for his arrest, Bridwell was mortally wounded in a shoot-out with the police.
Taken to Doctor Hackem, Bridwell had his brain transferred into the body of a gorilla and returned to his criminal career with renewed vigor, calling himself Big Julie.
Eventually tracking down Sachi Yama, Big Julie stormed J2's high-school where she was giving a speech and took her prisoner. After rescuing his mother, J2 defeated Big Julie.
However, Big Julie returned later with a gun that could turn people into monkeys, and he turned J2 into a gorilla as well. Time and again Big Julie encountered J2, but each time he turned the hero into an ape. Finally, after much perseverence on J2's part, Big Julie was defeated once more.
