X-Fan recently caught up with Finch and learned that the artist is working on a new Wolverine mini-series, slated for release in 2002. Prior to that, Finch is working on stories for the X-Men Unlimited anthology title, which recently had a schedule change from quarterly to bi-monthly.

"I'm just finishing the first of my X-Men Unlimited stories, and it's a story called 'Triptych', written by John Smith," Finch told X-Fan. "It's the story of a castout goth high school kid who stumbles across a fight between Jean Grey and Sabretooth. He get's swept up in the action and he uses his surprise mutant powers to disable Sabretooth. The whole thing is done in a three panel per page format that completely eliminates the possibility for me to draw anything big, which is a pain, but it's got an effect that makes the pain worth it. In the first panel of each page we get Jean's perspective, in the second we get the kid's, and in the third, we get his parents, who are obviously concerned for him."

"Next I'm doing a five-page Alpha Flight backup story for an upcoming issue of Wolverine. It seems to be kind of an appendix type of thing from what I've read. After that I'm either doing another X-Men Unlimited story for {editor} Dave Bogart, who's been nice enough to keep me working until the Wolverine mini starts, or I'll go directly into the mini. We're just waiting on a plot right now. A cool writer has agreed to write it as of a couple of days ago, so it should be soon now."

"He's by far and away my favorite character, so I had an enormous amount of fun drawing him," Finch said of Wolverine. "He just feels natural for me to draw... after all, I started drawing by copying Marc Silvestri's take on him. I'm looking forward to seeing something of mine published by Marvel. It'll be a first for me, as long as you don't count the crossover we did years ago, and it's hard to... I worked through Top Cow just like always."

Dave - I can't wait to pick up Unlimited next week! You are the best there is at what you do (when you draw Wolverine and Sabretooth ;) )
